After you survived the strongest earthquake in Japanese history, which device could communicate your message faster, iPhone or Blackberry?
It is a relevant question, since the message can be either “I am fine”, or “I need help”. Having a device in your hand that will help you probably can be the ultimate reason for your purchase. Help just once, and it will worth all the sacrifice you made throughout the lifecycle you are using it.
Blackberry has been the most reliable for its exclusive network. It earned the fame after 9/11. And in Egypt, Blackberry is also working after other networks are shut down, or better put, is the last to be shut down. There are messages from Blackberry office that they received praise from clients saying they used Blackberry to find out the situation of their expats in Japan.
iPhone is just too new to make it to 9/11, and the most recent iPhone 4 is being accused of all kinds of reception issues (well, Apple say it’s a feature than a bug). But this article quoted a real case in Japan that it is winning out in the post-earthquake race. And in Haiti, a man used an iPhone App to treat his own wound.
So, who is actually winning out? Probably this will be another winning factor for this race, which iPhone seems to be winning, but now the battle is in Blackberry’s strongest area. Will iPhone make it this time?
